17” Obsession

Whether it’s dreaming up print design elements; writing, recording and mixing music; exploring technique, new applications, hardware or diving into a tutorial, in front of a computer is where I spend most of my time. But when I do eventually get out, I love to spend time with the amazing friends I’ve been blessed to know, in deep discussion, buying used CDs, drinking Portland’s most sacred offerings of java, driving around listening to varieties of music and enjoying the moving pictures (you know who you are), and playing music in various bands and projects. However, my  favorite of all passions will always be; wresting, watching movies and goofing around with my amazing twin boys Jacob and Michael. They are truly the most precious gift a father could ever imagine and they enlighten and inspire me on daily basis. I also have the most patient and beautiful wife in the Galaxy. She puts up with my drive to do all the above, while maintaining a balanced home, supporting me with grace and love and holds the title for Best Mom known to Mankind. I could only hope to reflect her height of character and overall accountability.

What do you do?

Although I’m an Art Director / Designer / Media Developer by day and Sound Architect by night, I’m really not one who appreciates or likes to proudly display a “title” as some form of all-encompassing identity. As if a title could ever explain all that one is or aspires to be. In fact, in most circles of discussion or when meeting someone for the first time, I usually cringe when asked what I “do” because I know that they’re really asking me who I am and a title can really box you in to a corner, at least that’s how it makes me feel. After all, no matter what you do for a career or a hobby, that’s never going to explain or fully tap into all that you are. And unless you really get to know someone up close and personal, in an invested and intimate way, you’ll really never actually “know” them at all. So after some thought and a humorous discussion with my friend Stefan, I finally embraced the conclusion that it would be good to have some kind of professional title, one that brings it all together “multi-function diplomat of print & sound design.” At least that’s what I put on my business card :) It’s playfully pretentious, honest, humorous and says it all without saying much of anything as far as professional titles go, perfect!

Good Guys Finish Eventually

My long-time and dear friend Rod along with his multi-talented co-writer extraordinaire, Ed , have been working creatively as “The Advisors” and recently  released their LP “Good Guys Finish Eventually.” It’s definitely worth checking out as well as  purchasing. You can learn more about them  by clicking on this l i n k . You can also find them on the iTunes Music Store. OK, I admit I’m a little biased considering they’ve asked me to join them in support of their live lineup, but with their level of musicianship, that was an easy decision, one shouldn’t pass up such an opportunity!  :) But in all seriousness, please do check them out, it’s good stuff and they deserve the support!
